I just had to share this with people who may appreciate it: I've been yanking apart a lot of old telephones lately for the earpieces and one day I thought "I wonder if I coud get a signal with nothing but parts from the phone." Sure enough- everything you need is in there. I tried both the diodes and transistors for detectors (both worked), used a transformer minus the core for a coil, earpiece for, well, earpiece. The only thing not included was the antenna and ground connections. I also didn't use any capacitors, but there were some to play with if I wanted to. Certainly not a great radio, but it was a fun project.
