I have been learning and experimenting since I chimed in last. My best set is now three identical coils three identical caps all forming identical tanks for the AM band. I stack the coils, with a small gap between them. I bring in the antenna and ground to the center coil, 47k cap on the antenna. The bottom coil is tapped in the center for the diode. The top coil acts as a trap. The question.... I have notteced that the tuning coil and ant/ground coil take the same cap relative position to tune a station. Why not put a small variable cap on the tuning coil for my bandspreading and a fixed cap on the ant/ground of half that value, both in the tank. Then use a gang cap instead of seperate caps. That would make for one handed tuning???? Could it be so simple. I like the idea of being able to mark my dial for various frequencies and not having to keep a log of several values for each station. It is much easiar to DX if I know where the station should be.
