The phase locke loop is a way of grting mor freq bay the way of tow osc one is crystal control the other is a voltage control osclater. the voltage one can be changed by a voltage on it to aney freq you want in a range of freq. the crystal is locked to the one that is volage control bay a divide down contter. the way it is done is to get mor freq out of the stuff. lets say you want to go on 20 mhz you punch in 20mhz on the kee pad the volge control osc goes to 20 mhz. the crystal osc stays at one freq say 1 mhz the 20 mhz freq is divide down to 1 mhz and the two are locked toghter. you change the 20 mhz to 30 mhz the volge control osc to 30 mhz the cont down things so you get 1 mhz for a freq lock. the crystal osc stays the same all the time. the voltage control osc changes to what freq you want. there is more to it than that put is what is what hapions with a phase lock loop .
