Ken, Underground antennas work for radio waves that can penetrate the ground a bit. It saves the expense of supporting it in the air, especially when the antenna must be miles long and cross roads and stuff. But only VLF (like 50KHz) penetrates the ground enough to warrant that. For MF, like broadcast band, waves just don't penetrate enough in most dirt. Now if you live in the dry sandy desert... _J_
