Did you remagnitize the magnets? If not, take the coils out and take out the magnetized steel permanent magnet (careful) and figure out where the poles are (sort of obvious) but use a compass. Stick it to one of those super duper strong magnets so existing poles mate to opposite poles of the strong magnet and tap the steel firmly with something heavy (I use a spring loaded autopop center punch) that will shake up its magnetic domains. It will probably be much stronger for a few years. That makes an amazing difference. Try it. _J_
