I was using a double tuned loose coupler. The radio was about 12" from the (high Q) detector coil. Now that I think back the diode was the Avalanche detector (VERY sharp knee), not a 1N34. It was tapped on the detector coil at about 20%. The earphones were modern low impedance Koss Model R-10 (Shown in some of my photos) through a 2k:8 ohm transformer that came from the Electronics Goldmine.

There is no mystery as to what is happening. The audio from the headset causes a variable loading on the High Q detector coil and AM modulates it. I have seen the same trick used to generate AM used in a simple AM transmitter circuit. If I can find that diagram I will post it or show the URL.

I was also able to radiate a sig on 80 meters using a tripler circuit to take a very strong sig on the BC band (KLOK 1170) into the Ham band (3510). Not so hard to do.

The first post in this string IS a joke. --Loose
