On the Yahoo site I saw a post asking about Wood'd Metal for mounting mineral samples in detectors. I can't get on there to post. Wood's metal is a bismuth alloy with a ,melting temp of about 160 deg F. You can get it pre-made form Brownells Gunsmithing Supply in Motazuma Iowa. But why?? Use solder. I would think if you tined a copper plumbing end cap you would have a great form to melt your alloy and set you crystal in. Also try some type set metal. It is a lead/ tin/ antimony alloy. Get a bit from an old printing outfit. The porportions are arrainged to create a low temp eutectic alloy. It doesn't tarnish as much as solder over time. It has low surface tension so it should flow around the crystal well.
