I don't think so Eb. I could only hear it when I was tuned to a strong station. When I say strong I mean strong. KLOK gives me more than 20 volts p-p (no load) across the detector coil of a loose coupler. It lights up an LED pretty good. But, I don’t think you would need a station that strong to observe the effect.

I suppose I should try it with a Schottky or a 1N34 to see if it will work. I suspect that the matching transformer helps by stepping up any voltage generated by the Low Impedance phones. I am also pretty sure that you can’t use the vintage high impedance phones. They probably do not generate enough signal to work. But sound powered phones generate a nice healthy signal, and if you step it up, it ought to do the job.

Best DX worked with the trippler was across the room to my portable SW radio. --Larry
