Harvey, sorry for the mess I might be making of this. I'll add the following and sign off the subject, and let better qualified folks respond if they wish.
The formula for making the AM loop antenna we are discussing was provided by the person who put me onto all this, the man I mentioned but whoe name I couldn't provide. I thought you might enjoy having it in case you can't or don't care to make your own AM antenna - enhancer loop. You might, for example, have on hand an old picture frame or box that measures, say, 16" x 10" (and not my own 12" x 12"). Here is the formula that Mr. X gifted me with and which has worked well with several other variations on my 12" x 12" model:
(Sorry, I don't have the 'puter skills to provide a simple recreation of the math as he did. I'll fake it with prose:)
formula for number of loops (on any given frame):
242.3 divided by the square root of the area of the frame in square inches.
There you go, and my thanks to Mr. X.
I might mention that my most remarkable results with this design have been in an RF (radio frequency) hole which I have endured for years in that area between Seattle and Ellensburg, WA (in the Cascade mountain range) where not even the best automobile radios picked up anything at all to speak of. In the dirt, on a blanket along the ________river with this simple cardboard antenna-booster and the cheapest kind of $7.95 portable AM/FM 9v powered radio I got scads of stations. (AM, of course.) What good fun!
The RS model may work just fine for all I know.
Thanks much, Mike h
