I'm not sure about the shelf life but I do know about the "memory" that they have. If they are not run down to next to nothing before charging they will "remember" the voltage level you have been charging them at and not work as well. The process of discharging and charging is called conditioning. My recahargable beard trimmer s/b conditioned once a month if left in the charging stand during normal use.
