Let me suggest that if you do not use the batteries regularly, that you stay away from NiCads. I use Alkalines. Shelf life is years, and they have lots more storage capacity. They are ready when you need them, and if you use them heavily you take them out and put new ones in. If you want to recharge them, get the rechargeable alkalines. A tip on rechargeable alkalines, --They do not like to be run down below about 1.2 or 1.3 volts. If you discharge them to 1.1v or less they might not recharge. If you never take them below 1.3 volts they charge almost every time. Shelf life on a recharged alkaline is just like a fresh one as far as I have observed.
I gave up on NiCads for occasional use. The absolute best application for NiCads that I know of is your cordless shaver. Heavy load for a few minutes once a day until it starts to run slow then plug it in until the next day. One set of batteries in my Norelco lasted about 7 years in daily use before the storage capacity degraded to the point it became a nuisance. Hope this helps. --Larry
