Litz wire is stranded wire with individually insulated strands, used to reduce eddy-current losses (skin effect and proximity effect) in the low medium-frequency (typically 5 kHz to 1 MHz) applications. It also has great flexibility and thus finds it way into mic and headset cords, etc which are subjected to all kinds of stress and strain. We trashed dozens of Racal headsets till the manufacturer replaced the solid wire mic cords with Litz wire. This fixed the problem but adds to the cost of the headset. It ain't worth the cost for homebrewers, when cheaper, and more readily available products are available.
