Hi. I thought I would just add a comment or two to this discussion. As a serious homebrewer (and regen radio) "geek" I have wound MANY coils. My favorite wire for this is solid conductor, INSULATED hook-up wire. The wire's insulation very neatly spaces the wire along the coil form and helps prevent the wire from moving around after the winding is finished. Insulated hook-up wire makes very nice looking coils that are easy to wind. Enameled copper wire must be sanded at the ends before soldering and it has the disadvantage of being much more difficult to space evenly along the form and kinks often form. In theory, the "Q" of the enameled wire should be a bit higher than insulated hook-up wire, as long as a coil form with "ribs" is used. But performance-wise I can not detect any difference in selectivity when these coils are used in regenerative sets (where Q multiplication occurs due to their use of positive feedback).
