Take at look at Articles #6 and 8 on http://uweb.superlink.net/bhtongue/ for some results using SPICE to simulate a CW detector.
Running the simulations at various input carrier levels enables one to determine the detector response crest, valley and carrier level of an AM modulated sine wave.
