When you say 'bad', are we talking static-y interference stuff that goes away with the switch on accessories, or just weak performance?
If it's the first, contact your local Furd dealer. They've got the poop on what in the vehicle is causing the problem (in-tank electric fuel pumps are notorious for this).
If it's the second, you'll need to get at the back of the radio and see if there's a trimmer adjustment accessible. Literally, it's a capacitor to match the antenna. Tweak for results.
Is the antenna coax whole? Is there continuity from the plug to the antenna on center conductor and shield? Is there a cold joint where things are soldered on the plug or at the antenna? Is there a good ground at the antenna mount? Is there a short? Is the antenna ever hooked up? The antenna system is the first place I'd look.
