Yes, a copper oxide rectifer will detect radio waves... AND it becomes forward-biased when light falls on the junction. NOW, since Society members frown on 'biased detectors,' claiming that a crystal set using an external power source violates the spirit of the hobby, does a copper oxide diode facing a window relegate the set to the purists scrapheap? What if the user promises to use it only at night? Hmmm.
