My father has made several diodes in the past using lead and sulfer. The process is to melt the lead and mix in some sulfer. It will form a black lump. The lump of what is now similar to galina is cast in a small amount of lead and some sort of cup, say a 1/2" - 3/4" copper pipe cap. I would start with a small amount of sulfer an add more a littel at a time and test each mix till you get it to work well. Note: you may want to do this outside, lead fumes are bad news, and the wife will try to kill you if you attempt melting in the sulfer on the kitchen stove. A propane torch will provide plenty of heat and do the job well. Hope this helps
