Hi folks,

A while ago my XS-103/XS-101 combo went DEAD. When I finally got around to fixing the problem, I first tried the GND/ANT on another receiver with no problem...that was my first and only suspect since we did have a major hurricane here...real ANT killer. With no other real ideas, I looked at the 1N34A precariously hanging on the front of the XS-101. Upon measuring it with a DVM, I found the DETECTOR WAS BAD. I have to measure at least three times to convince myself this was really the problem. After replacing the diode, the receiver returned to service, and is now much 'hotter'. I am hearing more stations louder than ever before. Has anyone every had a similar experience?? Regards,

-Jim

True, but it did spread those 5 or 6 stations out far enough to find them easier.

What fun! Now I pull off coils from the thing to see what that does to my radio. If nothing good, then I'll put them back, tap it and make it the antenna matcher in the "real" set that I'm building.
