I recently acquired a "Pal" Radio Corp. detector. I would guess that it is from the mid 20's. It is a small wooden box about 3.75" x 2" x1.5" with a hinged lid. The box is covered with a thin black leather or vinyl. Inside is a marked dial arc, a terminal that says "Ant phone", a terminal that says "GR", and there are 2 holes where it looks like terminals should be and they are labeled "Detector" and "Phone". There is also a hole between those 2 terminals that I gather the Pal crystal should be (but there isn't anything. Lifting the contents revels a coil of wire split into 2 windings and a brass terminal comes from the "ant phone" post over the long winding but does not touch the wire anywhere. The wire coils are on the main board which is a piece of wood about 1/2" thick and slips into the box.
I would like to find out a bit more info on this and maybe find a cat whisker (or whatever detector these used) detector for this. Have any of you seen these and can you give me a bit more info? Internet searches for "Pal radio corp" or "Severn Sales Co" (the outfit that sold them) revealed nothing at all!
Thank you. apruitt@cwu.edu
