I need to find the formulae for computing the inductance of a straight wire in "free space." By free space I mean the ideal. (i.e. disregarding capacitance to nearby objects, inherent resistance, etc)
I realize that the major factor will be length and, to some extent, wire diameter. Think in terms of the kind or ordinary wire types used for straight wire SWL antennas.
It's my thinking that if I can come to even a rough approxination of say, X feet of wire will equal Y value of microhenries, I can arrive at a starting point of designing straight wire antennas that will be tunable with nothing more than the proper value of tuning capacitance. I HATE WINDING COILS AND WILL DO ANYTHING TO AVOID IT!
(Please pardon my "yelling." It was done for emphasis, not any anger.)
Thank you all in advance.
